Things to do in Oudtshoorn
The Klein Karoo over the mountains from George: caves, ostriches and big passes.
About an hour north of George, over the mountains
Oudtshoorn is the main town of the Klein Karoo, the dry, wide valley on the other side of the Outeniqua Mountains. It's a different world from the coast, and a classic day trip from George.
It grew rich on ostrich feathers more than a century ago, and the grand "feather palaces" from that boom still stand in town.
